GEP SMART Review

Unified S2P platform for mid-to-large enterprise

4.1Editorial scoreEnterprise

Quick Verdict

GEP SMART is a capable, unified source-to-pay platform with genuine depth across sourcing, contracts, procurement, and supplier management. Its strength is that it was built by a procurement consulting firm — GEP — which means the workflows and data models reflect how procurement actually operates rather than how software architects think it should. The trade-off is that the implementation model reflects that consulting heritage too: GEP-led deployments are thorough but expensive and slow.

What GEP SMART Does Well

Full S2P coverage is solid across every module: sourcing events, contract lifecycle management, purchase-to-pay, supplier management, and spend analytics all work in an integrated way without the seams you sometimes feel in platforms assembled through acquisition. The AI capabilities — spend classification, risk identification, sourcing recommendations — are mature and practically useful rather than demo-ware.

GEP SMART performs particularly well in complex sourcing scenarios: multi-round RFPs, reverse auctions, complex award optimisation. The consulting firm background shows here — these features reflect real sourcing processes.

Where GEP SMART Falls Short

The implementation model is heavily consulting-led, which means timelines and costs are high. GEP's preference is to sell implementation alongside the platform, which limits flexibility in choosing your own SI partner. The UI, while functional, is less polished than Coupa. Smaller organisations will find the cost-to-value ratio unfavourable compared to mid-market alternatives.

Pricing

Custom enterprise pricing. Not published. Comparable to SAP Ariba and Jaggaer in profile — expect significant six-figure annual commitment for mid-to-large enterprise deployments, with implementation costs of similar magnitude.

Who It Is Best For

Mid-to-large enterprises (500+ employees) wanting a unified S2P platform with strong sourcing capabilities; organisations comfortable with a consulting-led implementation; companies in industries where GEP has domain depth (manufacturing, retail, pharma, financial services).

Who Should Look Elsewhere

Organisations prioritising fast deployment and high user adoption (Coupa); SAP customers wanting native ERP integration (SAP Ariba); mid-market companies where the cost profile is too high (Procurify, Kissflow).

The Bottom Line

GEP SMART is a serious enterprise S2P platform that deserves consideration alongside Coupa, Jaggaer, and Ivalua. Its sourcing depth and unified architecture are genuine strengths. Go in clear-eyed on the implementation model and cost profile — this is not a platform you deploy quickly or cheaply.
